Conditions were warmer than expected on Faur Tholl, Paul and I climbed Right End Buttress III 4 - though the first pitch is definitely trickier than that, a couple of steep pulls on slopey foot holds. In all a nice route that finished pretty much on the summit.

On arrival at the car park our fears that the forecast was right were confirmed. We had a warm walk up to the CIC hut, on arrival we decided that a ridge would be best. Ledge Route or Castle Ridge suited the bill and we went for Ledge Route. The weather was warm and sky cloudy, but we persisted in skinning up fiacaill coire cas. Once at the top of the ridge the cloud lifted giving us a view of the coire's - black buttresses and some very scoured patches. We then headed up Cairngorm to enjoy a good ski on spring snow back down and headed to the cafe.

The day started with a fine blue sky and gentle plod up the hill. There were plenty of teams out on the harder mixed lines. The route was busy but sociable, by the time we had got to the fin the cloud had started to drop, blowing in and out. It was a much brighter and drier day than yesterday and we enjoyed some good views. The temperatures were still above freezing and the snow pack thawing. We looked at cutting steps, using crampons, ice axe arrest, and even ventured up to the ridge to try out the windy conditions.

People have been out on the classic Snowdonia ridges - Crib Goch, Tryfan, Y Gribin, Crib Lem etc and climbing on Glyder Fach, Glyder Fawr, Black Ladders, Clogwyn Du. The ice is not great yet, still quite cruddy and water courses insulated by the snow, but give it a few more days and I am sure it will be good.

We headed to the Wye valley and sampled some of its finest at Shorn Cliff, then on to the more adventurous Wintour's Leap and Wynd Cliff for a double crag day!
